Couplets Close to my Heart

Urdu is a language known for it's softness and poetic verses.
Here is a collection of my favourite Urdu Couplets.
Rest assured there'll be part 2 or maybe three of this post!
Soak yourself in the mellifluous urdu language!

Dhoop mein niklo ghataaon mein naha kar dekho. Zindagi kya hai, kitaabon ko hata kar dekho.
-Nida Fazli
Translation- Walk in the sun, and bathe in the rivers. Throw aside your books, and see the beautiful scenery that life is.

Ab ke hum bichade toh shayad kabhi khwaabon mein milein, jis tarah sookhe huye phool kitaabon me milein.
-Ahmad Faraz
Translation- If we part this time, we may meet in our dreams, like the dried flowers found between the books.

Saahil ke sukoon se kise inkaar hai lekin, toofaan se ladne mein maza hi kuch aur hai.
-Ale Ahmad Suroor
Translation- Everyone loves the peace of coasts, but there is some unexplainable fun in fighting the storms.

Jo log maut ko zalim karaar dete hain, khuda milaaye unhe zindagi ke maaron se. -Unknown
Translation- Those who blame death for being unjust haven't experienced the misery that life is.

Main akela hi chala tha janib-e-manzil magar log saath aate gaye aur kaarvan banta gaya.
-Majhrooh Sultanpuri
Translation- I started the journey towards my destiny alone but then the people started accompanying and it turned into a caravan.

Hua hai tujh se bichadne ke baad ye maaloom, ki tu nahin thi, tere saath ek duniya thi.
-Ahmad Faraz
Translation- It was after you left I realised that it wasn't just you, but a whole world within you.

Khuda ki itni badi kaainaat mein maine, bas ek shakhs ko maanga, mujhe wahi na mila.
-Bashir Badr
Translation- In this vast world full of people, I asked God only for one of them, but he took him/her away from me.

Dil bhi pagal hai ki uss shakhs se wabasta hai, jo kisi aur ka na hone de na apna rakhe.
-Ahmad Faraz
Translation- The heart is so stupid that it is attached to someone who neither allows me to love others nor does he love me.

Shaakhon se toot jaaein woh pattey nahi hain hum, aandhi se koi keh de ki aukaat mein rahe.
-Rahat Indori
Translation- It isn't easy to separate the leaves that we are from its branch, ask the storm to not cross its limit.

Samaan bandh liya hai maine apna ghaalib, ab batao kahan rehte hain wo log jo kahin ke nahin rehte.
-Unknown
Translation- I have packed my bag O'Ghalib, now tell me where do the ones who never stay faithful to others stay?

Winter is here

And thus December has rolled in..
Winter's here..
Winter conjures up different emotions in different people. While some see winter as an enjoyable affair(with picnics and fairs;with the mesmerizing taste of oranges)others, including poets take a less sombre view..
Poets have a habit of perceiving things minutely and attaching a significant amount of personification to it.Thus, winter is personified to something withering away,to the cold sweep of the frost which'll disrupt life wherever be it's path.
But,I would differ a bit from that.My take on Winter would be inspired from T.S.Eliot's "The Waste Land", where he writes:
"Winter kept us warm,
Covering the earth in forgetful snow"
Thus,a particular warmth winter has. This warmth is the warmth of forgetfulness, the warmth even associated with coldness, this warmth comes bundled with the joy of the season..

Seasons greetings to all!
Peace!

Nikola Tesla:The forgotten wizard

NIKOLA TESLA:WIZARD OF ELECTRICTY
We all are enjoying the fruits of this marvellous phenomena called electricity which we have harnessed so skillfully. But do most of know the person behind all these marvels??
Electricity as we 'use' it is of two types..The Alternating Current where the direction of current changes and direct current where the direction remains same.Though DC was in vouge since the 19th century, but it was worthless for long distance transmission. Then,Nikola Tesla happened who revolutionised the whole scheme of things.
Nikola Tesla was born in a mountainious part of Balkan Peninsula, then a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His father was an Christian Priest belonging to the 'orthodox' sect. His father was also a writer and a poet. His mother, apart from being a housewife had marvellous mechanical aptitude;which later manifested itself in Tesla.
After his early schooling in *,he enrolled to study engineering at Gratz Polytechnique in Austria. There he marvelled in the course

Urdu Couplet:Zamana Humse Hai...

Hamko Mita Sake Ye Zamane Mein Dam Nahin
Hamse Zamana Khud Hai Zamane Se Ham Nahin
Befayda Alam Nahin, Bekaar Gham Nahin
Taufiq De Khuda To Ye Neamat Bhi Kam Nahin
Meri Zubaan Pe Shikawa-E-Ahl-E-Sitam Nahin
Mujhko Jaga Diya Yahi Ehsaan Kam Nahin
Yaa Rab! Hujoom-E-Dard Ko De Aur Wusaten Daaman To Kya
Abhi Meri Aankhain Bhi Nam Nahin
Zaahid Kuch Aur Ho Na Ho Maikhaane Mein
Magar Kya Kam Ye Hai Ki Shikawa-E-Dair-O-Haram Nahin
Shikwa To Ek Ched Hai
Lekin Haqeeqatan Tera Sitam Bhi Teri Inaayat Se Kam Nahin
Marg-E-Jigar Pe Kyon Teri Aankhain Hain
Ashk-Rez Ik Saaniha Sahi Magar Itni Aham Nahin

Solitude....

There are times in your life when you would be sleepy at 11:59 PM,yet a thousand thoughts will cloud your brain and force you to rethink your life in radical terms.
These are the moments you wish you could literally thrash, scream, punch those insignificant people who've held up your life and have made it miserably miserably. Those people from whom you expect a lot, have had a thousand dreams but now you watch them drift apart..Slowly..
And you realise that it had happened earlier also..And will happen again..
---------------------------------------------------------------
The silence of the night, pierced by the occasional chirping of birds, the devotional kirtan somewhere and the lone motorist on the ever lonely roads..And there you'll lie, thinking;turning and tossing in your bed about what could've been and what had turned out actually..You curse your luck, you curse the person..But,deep down you realise that nothing's gonna probably change..You'll behave foolishly once again, and once again you'll have this "slipping away" feeling..And this cycle would repeat itself..You'll be bruised, scathed, scarred; yet you'll yearn..
And in the end,it'll just be a lonely night..With just you and the calm, cold night spreading her arms around you and giving the best embrace.
It'll be just you and your solitude.

Couldn't Be..

How fine it would have been..
If we had entangled?
But it just couldn't be..
We were like two different strands of yarn..
It just couldn't be..

How fine it would have been..
If I endured a bit less pain?
But it couldn't be..
I fell on you and shattered myself..
It just couldn't be..

How fine it would have been.
If the days were a little less bleak?
But it couldn't be..
Autumnal days,Beaked out moments..
It just couldn't be..

Moments

The seasons have changed,
The time has changed,
You're no more into me.
Still..
The pain
Of realisation
Gnaws me,from within

I know you're far,
Too far,
Far beyond my reach.
Still..
For once
I would want to
Relive those moments again..

I'm a prisoner of the past.
You,a free bird..
And the twain shall never meet..
As the classics said.

Couple of Couplets

• Waqt bahut guzar gayi, tareekhein yaadon se dhundli ho gayi...
Par puraani yaadein kabhi kabhi sata ti hain...
Par main bhi jee leta hoon,us kal ke intezar mein...
Jo kal har subah ki paigam deke aati hai...

•Tumhari yaadon me din bityai humne,
Tumhari yaadon me shaam,
Phir bhi tum kabhi pass na aaye,
Yeh yaadein hi hai meri inteqam..

•Apni rah par chal diye hum!
Jahan manzil hogi, wahi par rukenge hum!
Na toh tum theherne waale nazaron ke liye,
Aur na theherne waale kisi aur ke liye,
Apni rah pakad li hum!

A poem from the past.....

Those days..

JANUARY 9 , 2017

I sat wondering,
All those days I had spent,
Those days basked in glory,
Now filled with grayish overtones,

What a grand future I could have!,
If I had that wisdom,
Now I do have that,
But not the reason..

Now I just have to plough on,
Keep myself together,
Wait for time to take, Its course,,
For better or for worse..

I had written this poem (as a Facebook Note)at a time when I was facing personal crisies(I do face them now!),but those were really testing times;when I had felt the world had failed me...
I had recently found it out while digging my old facebook account, which no longer exists....

New Posts on the way.....

Again there has been a lull in my blogging efforts due to the Durga Puja vacations, preceded by the Mid Semester Examinations @ my institute..Normally I try to blog more during my free time, but this year the vacation was short and I had little amount of time to concentrate on my new blog posts..
But finally,I've got the impetus to pen down(or rather, type down) something for my blog..

Who'll stand up for them?

"Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan"
The legendary slogan attributed to Shashtriji has been backtracked in this 21st century Liberalised World, where the need of soldier comes when the enemy attacks and the farmer, when you don't have food on your dinner plate.
In so far,the moat neglected lot amongst our general Indian populace has been tha farmers.Though comprising of about 70%of our Economy (our Economy is primarily an Agrarian one);it's the farmers who are left out.
Let me give you a basic example.Do you know the name of at least one farmer leader? No!Well, that's what I expected from you..Farmers are a poor, neglected lot.Yes,there are Farmers with big houses & tractors and all that, but the ones who are th moat vulnerable are the one's who are into subsistence farming i.e.their very source of food is whatnthey grow. With the division of landholdings, policy paralyais at the governmental stage, erratic weather patterns, all of them have pushed our farmers back to the wall.
There was a  report by the United Nations , there was a farmer suicide every 32 minutes between 1997 and 2005 in India.Isn't that enough for us to introspect?
It's high time, We,the citizens of India do something to address this growing problem and lend voice of the unheard.

The forgotten giants of Indian Science:JC BOSE and DM BOSE(Part 1)

JAGADISH CHANDRA BOSE

In the latter part of 19th century India, and Bengal,in particular gave rise to many intellectual giants, one of them was Jagadis Chandra Bose.Born in a bengali hindu family on 30th November 1858 he was a real polymath, being knowledgable in fields of Physics,Biology,Botany,Archaeology and even wrote science fiction!
He graduated from St. Xaviers College,Calcutta and went on to University of London to study medicine but it was cut short owing to health problems. He returned to India and joined the prestigious Presidency College as professor of physics.
His most famous research was into the study of short-waves.We can get the idea of his intelligence from the fact that he was years ahead of his time in realising that semi-conductors can be used in communication. He had used Galena(PbS)to produce short-waves.But alas!,his apathy to all forms of patenting caused Signor Marconi taking a march over him and being known as the inventor of radio. But years later IEEE corrected this(see this link)and he is known as the real "Father of Wireless Technology".
Apart from that his researches into plant stimuli gave the scientific community the idea that plants too have sensory capabilites. His invention 'Crescograph' is a milestone in this direction.
He was the founder of experimental science in the Indian Sub-continent.His research institution 'Bose Institute(Bose Bigyan Kendra)' is now internationally renowed.
He was the first Indian to get US patent in 1904

After a long time.........

After a long time I have started writing off something for my blog.I was pretty much occupied by pursuing my personal goals that I had little time to pursue the smaller pleasures of writing.
I hope readers won't take offence to it..😆
